Last Practice before
The First Game of the Season!
9/9/10
It is Thursday, 9/9/10 and School
is officially closed for an "Administrative Day." Yet,
here are the members of the East Orange Unified Marching Band at
3:00 PM on a beautiful school holiday, out in the middle of
Rowley Park, practicing their half-time show for tomorrow's
Football Game between Vernon High School and East Orange Campus
High.
The band is currently being
directed by Denzel Thompson as the other section leaders and Band
Director Frederick Goode watch and offer him advice. This is a
new policy for the band, giving on-the-job leadership training to
capable students.
Who is that at the far right
carrying a Mace? It is Allan Theodore, Section Leader of the
flutes, who has a new leadership role helping to direct the
newest Band Members and get them up to speed.
At tomorrow's Football Game, you
will see, for the first time, the Unified Marching Band being led
by three Mace Carrying Leaders. In the center (beneath the Green
Arrow) will be Bria Douglas, Drum Major and Clarinet Section
leader, on the left, as mentioned, is Allan Theodore, Flute
Section Leader, and on the right is Lloyd Tomlinson, Mellophone
Section leader. You will also see all of them drop their maces
and join the band with their instruments from time to time.
Director
Frederick Goode has taken over in the above photo, and we see the
Section leaders back in the band leading their sections. This is
just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting new season.
Now watch them
in action on the video as they put the finishing touches on
tomorrow's half-time show.
