Bloomfield High School
vs
East Orange Campus High
10/15/10
Tonight's dinner is pizza, served
by and paid for by the Band Parent Association and YOUR donations
to the Band. The Band Members thank you!
After a quick pizza dinner, the
band members race upstairs to get dressed for tonight's football
game with Bloomfield High School.
Then, out the door they go, to
line up in the parking lot before marching across town to Paul
Robeson Stadium on this windy and chilly autumn night.
Meanwhile, at Paul Robeson
Stadium, the Bloomfield High School Band is just setting up
getting ready to play the opening show.
It was an excellent performance
from an excellent band. They played music from Leonard
Bernstein's West Side Story and brought cheers from the
crowd for the way they marched and played. We don't have
permissions to show the video we took of their show, but they did
pretty much the same show that was performed in West Orange on
September 25th, currently available on YouTube:
By the time the East Orange
Unified Marching Band arrived, the Bloomfield show was over, the
last bit of daylight was gone, and the game was ready to start.
Shooting with flash cameras doesn't work well at night games, so
I will continue the rest of my story with still photos taken from
the video camera.
The video camera enhances the
stadium lights to see everything as if it were lit by daylight,
as shown by this photo taken clear across the stadium. What was I
doing on the other side of the stadium?
Drum Instructor Craig
Jarrett and Drum Major Bria
Douglas had gone over to the Bloomfield
Band slide of the stadium to invite them to sit in their band
seats during the half-time show so they would be able to see the
show from the front.
The Bloomfield football team
scored the first touchdown and field goal of the game, but after
that, all the touchdowns were made by East Orange. Our Band
cheered them on to one touchdown after another. Many of the new
pieces that the band uses are partly played and partly sung in
loud choruses combined with dance moves by the entire band.
In the past, all the half-time
show videos were taken from high up in the stands. Today, I
decided to bring the video camera down to the field and get a
close-up view of the band in action.
