It's 10:56 AM on Saturday morning
(10/03/09) and this time the students were able to get into the
school building when they arrived (about 8:30 AM for some of
them), get their instruments and begin rehearsing for today's
performance at Montclair, their first away game of the year.
The previous day (10/02/09) the
band held a "Back to School Skating Party" fund raiser
at Branchbrook Park Skating Rink in Newark. It was just for band
members and their school friends, but soon we will be coming out
to the general public to ask for their support.
Today there is time for a quick
rehearsal indoors to go over the fine points of the music. Then
the band puts on their warmup suits and lines up outside to board
the buses for Montclair.
You may recall that the first away game of the
season was at Vernon Township on September 11th. The band was not
allowed to participate because they didn't have uniforms. They
still don't have the "official" uniforms, but the blue
and black warm-up suits give them a uniform appearance, so the
school sent two buses to pick them up and take them to Montclair.
The students separated into "small
instruments" and "big instruments" to fill up the
two buses.
The "big instruments" bus held fewer
students, because their instruments also took up seats.
Once the students were packed in and ready to
go, they headed out to Montclair. Shortly afterwards, the rain
started, but soon it stopped and the sun came out again. I was
unable to make it to the game. If anyone has photos of the band
at Montclair to share from the game, I will post them on this
page.
