For some members of the Unified Marching Band,
Summer Band Camp has already begun. These are the section leaders
and student members who will be taking on a leadership role
within the band this coming year. During the month of July, while
the majority of band members were relaxing and enjoying the
summer vacation, these hard workers volunteered to come to Cicely
Tyson School to participate in Exercises, Marching Drills, and
Leadership Training under the direction of Mr. Goode and with the
everpresent aid of Ms Saez.
Under the watchful eye of Band Director
Frederick Goode, the participants exercise in pairs, learning to
help one another topughen up. Even Ms Saez (far right in blue)
takes part in the exercises.
The adults in charge have to stay in shape, too,
in order to keep up with the students. Keep in mind that this
exercise is taking place during the heat of summer, so it's a
good way to sweat off extra pounds.
Some of the exercises are really challenging,
but Mr. Goode doesn't ask the students to do anything he is not
prepared to do himself.
The close-order marching drills teach the
students to work as a team. They will then be showing the other
students how to perform these marching drills when Band Camp
starts on August 2nd.
