The Third Week saw the transition
of the students from the OLD Cycely Tyson School to the new
Cicely Tyson Community School of Performing and Fine Arts. The
Fourth Week began with the arrival of the students in their new
"home." These photos were taken on Tuesday of Week Four
as the students settle in to their new surroundings.
This is the band room at the new
school, as a few of the students begin to gather after having
lunch at near-by Rowley Park. They have one more day before their
first public performance as a band, at the Student Orientation on
Thursday, August 27th.
You can always tell the leaders
of the group. They are always getting in extra practice, or
jamming with each other as the other students sit around and wait
or listen. Above, Darian Bravo on the left and Denzel Thompson on
the right playing a sousaphone duet.
The band assembles on the
left...brasses and flutes with drums across the rear wall.
The band assembles on the
right... mostly saxophone players who provide the Alto voices.
In front of Band Director Frederick Goode are
the Soprano voices of the band, the clarinets and flutes. The
missing trumpeters (those empty chairs) will come running into
place just as the band begins to play.
Above video: Two examples of what we heard the
band practicing on 8/25/09.
